Beard Friendly Snacks For the Super Bowl
01/31/2019

The “big game” is coming Sunday, February 3rd, 2019 at 4:30pm MST. We’re all excited about the Super Bowl and we’re getting our houses ready for the party and our trucks ready for tailgating. But, at Better Man Beard, there’s usually one other thing on our mind: beards. We just heard that famously (and epically) bearded wide receiver for the New England Patriots Julian Edelman said that he would shave his beard if the Pats won the Super Bowl this year. That complicates things because bearded fans of the Patriots may be conflicted if they win. On one hand, their favorite team wins, however, at the cost of an epic beard biting the dust. So many mixed emotions, it’s hard to keep track! Whether or not you’re a Patriots fan or a anyone BUT the Patriots fan, there’s one thing we can agree on: celebrating the big game calls for an awesome array of snacks!

When it comes to tailgating and celebrating the big game each year with delicious food and snacks and beer (so much beer), not all snacks are created equal. When you have a beard, you look at life and food a little bit differently. This is because not all food, especially snack food, is beard friendly. Let’s look at some of the more “beard friendly” snacks you can bring to your next tailgate party.

Mini Hoagies

Here’s the thing. Bread may be the bane of many successful diets, however, bread is the savior to eating with a beard. Bread serves as nature’s perfect, delicious, and carb loaded barrier between your whiskers and the delicious sandwich fillings. Check out this great recipe here. (Note: you can use crackers or substitute them for 1.5 inch squares of hoagie bread.)

Meat and Cheese Tray

Sometimes simple is the best way to be. Why complicate things? If we’re honest with ourselves, most of us men love to eat two things: meat and cheese. You don’t need to dress it up. We’ll just eat it off a tray with our bare hands or maybe a toothpick. Recipe here.

Bacon Wrapped Dates

Dates are far from a typical, everyday food for the average guy in the U.S. You don’t see a lot of date-specific recipes in American restaurant menus. However, bacon wrapped dates are one of the universe’s purest and most delicious creations. The date may not work well alone as a snack or a topping to an artisanal pizza, but they are the perfect bacon delivery system. Never had a date in your life? Try this recipe and you can thank us later.

Bonus: Jalapeno Poppers

These are a staple at my family’s Super Bowl party and they are so easy to make. We honestly recommend skipping a recipe and just buying them in the frozen food section of your grocery store. They taste great and are beard friendly! Just make sure they cool down a bit before you pop one in.

When it comes to enjoying the big game, there is just about something for everyone, even those who aren’t even into American football. At any good football party, you have the game itself, the awesome commercials, cold beers, and especially great snacks. Let’s hope this beard friendly menu can help your next watching party become a huge hit!
