We’re very proud to be taking part in this incredible Nevada tradition that stretches back 100 years. The annual Genoa Candy Dance began all the way back in 1919 when Genoa was just a settlement, Nevada’s first, in fact. The town wanted to raise money in order to install street lights and wanted to do something a little extra on top of a typical dance in order to draw a bigger crowd. “Lillian Virgin Finnegan, daughter of then prominent Judge Daniel Webster Virgin, suggested the idea of a dance and making candy to pass around during the dance as an incentive for a good ‘turn-out’ of couples.” (Genoanevada.org) Well, the candy was a huge hit and drew in more than enough people to fund the street light project. And each year since the gathering has grown and morphed from a single night’s dance and dinner into a multi-day festival complete with arts, crafts, and music!

100 Years Of Dancing

The Genoa Candy Dance is on the last full weekend of September each year. The date for the Annual Genoa Candy Dance Art & Crafts Faire is Saturday and Sunday, September 28-29, 2019, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Candy Dance Dinner & Dance is Saturday night from 4 to 10 p.m. If you haven’t heard of the dance or had found excuses to not make the trip in years passed, then this is the perfect year to go. This year not only marks the 100th year of the Candy Dance, but it gives you the perfect opportunity to come visit the Better Man Beard booth and check out our amazing products first hand. There you can see live product demos and try a sample or two. You can even check out our new merch clothing so you can sport your Better Man Beard pride. 

Feast For The Ages

Not only will there be lots of booths showcasing fantastic arts and crafts (and especially candy!) but there will be a special catered dinner presented by Liberty Food And Wine Exchange by Chef Mark Estee. The entree will consist of your choice of protein: Bently BBQ Beef, fresh country fried chicken, or Liberty sausages. You will then have your choice of sides to choose from which include: mac & cheese, roasted vegetables, salads made from locally harvested greens, breads and butter. Bring a healthy appetite but make sure to save room for some tasty local wines and beers served at the no host bar as well. Tickets for the dinner are on sale now and are $32 per person.
