It’s Thanksgiving time here in the U.S. and that means getting together with friends and family for food and festivities. While the same ol’ traditions are fun and all, what if you could mix it up this year? Why not propose that you and the host BBQ the Thanksgiving dinner outside? It will add a unique and fun challenge, but will also add a depth of flavor and authenticity to the meal that will make it much more memorable and Instagram-worthy than your traditional affair. In today’s blog, we’re going to cover some excellent BBQ and outdoor friendly recipes to help you get inspired to switch things up this Thanksgiving holiday. Let us know in the comments if you have tried this in the past or are going to do it this year! We can’t wait to hear from you.
Let’s start with the fundamentals: the bird. For this recipe, you will need just a few ingredients, a decent BBQ grill and a lot of patience. Your bird should come out moist, juicy, and full of that delicious smoky grilled flavor that makes all of the extra effort worth it! These bad boys are going to be easier to make on the BBQ grill than they are typically indoors. Here’s how. You simply take 10 or so medium to large sized potatoes and wash the outside really well. Place them over indirect coals in the grill along with your turkey. Wait until about the last 2 hours of cook time to put the potatoes in. After about 90 minutes on the grill, check the potatoes to see if they are tender. If they are, simply take them off the heat, peal, and then mash the soft interior. You can even incorporate some of the skins which will have a smoky flavor, or you can turn the skins into another side which we will talk about below! Then add your milk, butter, and other fixin’s to your mashed potatoes and serve with the turkey. Couldn’t be easier. Here’s the full recipe: https://girlscangrill.com/recipe/grilled-mashed-potatoes/
Don’t discard those delicious skins! You’ve got to keep the skins. Turn them into a tempting and scrumptious side dish. You can brush the skins with some olive oil or butter and then put them on a baking sheet to broil for a few minutes each side in order to get that extra level of crispy. If not, then simply put together your favorite toppings like cheese, bacon bits, and breadcrumbs and load these guys up and put them in the oven to melt off the cheese and you’re set.
