The 2019 Treefort After Action Report
03/27/2019

The 2019 Treefort festivities have officially come to a close here in Boise, and we lived to tell about it. There were huge bands, great beer, artful films, and so much more. Let’s explore the thrills and chills of this year’s Fort of Forts. We’ll look at some of the main attractions and at little gems that many people may have missed in favor of more popular bands or venues.

A Band That You May Have Missed

If you like music, then you’re in the right place. There’s something special about the acoustics of downtown Boise that give live music a certain special quality that other cities just don’t have. Maybe it’s the lack of pea soup thick smog or the snarling traffic or the fact that the mountains are so close by that gives music an air of something magical. Or, it could be the beers talking… Either way, music just sounds better in the City of Trees.

You may have caught most of the mainstage shows or spent most of your time at the Neurolux, because they already have a thriving music scene, and if you did, that’s ok. But, you may have missed a great gem over at The Spacebar on Saturday. The Dedicated Servers played at 12:40am on Saturday night at The Spacebar. The Dedicated Servers have several songs devoted to and created from music from classic video games like Street Fighter and Tekken. They have even created an entire album of hip hop remixes of Tekken game music. If you’re wanting to take a look back to the glory days of couch co-op this next Throwback Thursday, then look no further than the Dedicated Servers.

Derby Dash

If you’ve ever been curious about what a roller derby is like, then look no further than Treefort. This year’s Treefort sported an odd but beloved sport: the roller derby. If you were lucky enough to be at the Idaho Power parking lot on Saturday March 23rd, then you got a helluva show. If you weren’t there then you missed Idaho’s top derbiers the Treasure Valley Roller Derby.

From their official website: “Treasure Valley Roller Derby is an all female flat track roller derby league and member of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association. Established 2006, TVRD is based in Boise, ID and represents the Treasure Valley in competitions nation-wide. At home, they play at Expo Idaho at the fairgrounds in the Spring and Fall.”

Yass Queen

If music or derby (or beers) just aren’t your thing, then here’s something to keep an eye out for at next year’s Treefort: Drag Queen Story Hour. This year at Treefort, many people got their fabulous selves down to The Owyhee first floor cafe space to listen to Boise’s top queens read storybooks for children to an all ages audience. It’s about celebrating gender diversity, great fashion, and fun stories. Keep this on your radar for next year’s Treefort and for around the pacific northwest because they are always doing great events like this nearby! Who doesn’t love celebrating their charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent?
