Growing a beard is simple enough, but that is only just the beginning. Keeping your beard sharp, healthy, and comfortable is quite the undertaking. As you may know already, if you don’t stay on top of your beard care routine, or if you don’t have one in the first place, then things can get out of hand pretty quickly. At that point, your beard can look uneven, unhealthy, and lead to problems like dry, flaky skin, split ends, and other unsightly issues. Having a good beard care routine is essential to keeping your beard looking its best and your face being healthy. Let’s explore some best practices for establishing your own beard care routine.
A clean beard is a happy beard! Wash your beard regularly (at least 2 to 3 times per week) to help ensure that your beard doesn’t collect dirt, pollen, sweat, and other natural oils that come from your skin. Use a specific beard wash or sulfate free facial/beard cleanser.
Conditioning is just as, if not more important than washing. Conditioning your beard helps it stay healthy and moisturized and looking fuller and richer the longer you do it. It helps to reduce tangles and split ends and ensures that your beard stays comfortable.
We recommend applying beard balm regularly, at least every other day especially if you have a longer, thicker beard.
A good beard oil is the lifeblood of any well functioning beard care routine. If you’re just starting your beard care journey, we recommend applying beard oil daily and then adjusting to more applications if necessary if you find that your beard hair is extra absorbent. Our original beard oil is a fantastic one to start with.
How to Use Beard Oil:
Along with washing and conditioning, you will need to be on the lookout for opportunities to trim your beard every 3 to 5 days, if not more often, depending on the shape you are going for. You will notice that there will be patches that grow faster or slower than the rest of your hair and you need to help keep those managed through trimming and shaping.
Brushing your beard daily can not be overlooked! It helps to keep your hair looking more orderly and “in control” rather than wild and overgrown. This also helps to evenly distribute any beard care products like oils and balms so that your whole face and beard has a chance to look healthy and happy.
Here is a handy checklist that you can use as a guide to help you build your perfect beard care routine!
Cleanse – Wash your beard 2–3 times per week with a gentle beard wash.
Condition – Apply a beard conditioner or balm to soften and hydrate.
Oil – Use beard oil daily to nourish and prevent itchiness or beardruff.
Trim – Regularly trim to remove split ends and maintain shape.
Brush/Comb – Use a boar bristle brush or wide-tooth comb to detangle and train growth.
Stay Healthy – Eat well, hydrate, exercise, and rest for strong beard growth.
Be Consistent – Stick to your routine every day for the best results.
