Should I Put Beard Oil on a Wet or Dry Beard?
10/09/2025

Having a beard is a lot like having a pet or a houseplant. You have to really take care of it and nourish it and treat it right if you want it to both survive and thrive! One question that gets asked a lot by those either trying to grow a beard, or who have been having issues with their current routine is this: Should I put beard oil on a wet or dry beard? Well, we will tackle that important question and more in today’s blog. If you have any stories or tips of your own to share, please feel free to shout us out on social media or comment in the section below.

Here Is The General Rule Regarding This Question:

We all want our beard oil to work as well as possible in order to help us maintain a thick, healthy, and moisturized beard that you will enjoy having and others will enjoy looking at. A huge key to unlocking your beard’s potential is when to moisturize with a potent beard oil such as one of our own. Here is what we recommend: After towel-drying, apply our all-natural beard oil to your damp beard to lock in moisture and distribute evenly, which will result in a soft and hydrated beard.

How To Apply Oil To Your Beard For Maximum Impact

Beard oil is a rather complex and strong piece of grooming technology. Since it is concentrated, a little goes a long way. You can’t just splash a huge handful on your face and call it good. If you use too much, you will risk over-oiling your beard which can stain your clothes and leave your face and beard looking shiny like it was made of doll hair. If you use too little, then you can under-feed your hair and leave it dry, patchy, and dull looking. Here are some handy tips.

  • Shower with warm water and rinse your beard out with some warm water, do not use your hair shampoo on your face
  • Gently towel dry your beard with a clean towel until it is just lightly damp
  • Apply beard oil to the palms of your hands and then use your hands to apply it to your beard
  • Start at the top of your face and work the oil from the top down to the bottom of your beard, near your neckline
  • Once you have a good coating, take a beard comb, we recommend a sandalwood one, and comb your beard in order to evenly distribute the oil throughout your beard. Start from the top and comb down.
  • Repeat by adding more oil and combing as necessary if there are any dry patches
  • After you are finished, take a hand towel or a paper towel and gently touch your beard with it to take off any excess oil. You want your beard to be moist, but not dripping with too much oil
