Spring Cleaning For Your Beard
02/28/2023

Spring Cleaning! That’s right, it’s that time of year again, but we’re not talking about cleaning your house (although you should probably do that as well!). No, we’re talking about Spring Cleaning for your beard. While we know that all of you definitely keep your beards looking perfectly clean and tidy, there is always a good moment to do a once yearly super clean to help you stay fresher and cleaner for the rest of the year. We’re introducing a new fashion and grooming routine that you will definitely want to integrate into your regime. So, without further ado, let’s go over the ins and outs of our exciting Beard Spring cleaning routine!

Start With The Basics: A Shower Or Intense Face/Beard Wash Session

The first thing you want to do in the Beard Spring Cleaning process is start with a good foundation. That means getting your face and beard thoroughly clean so that you can then build upon that. Start by giving your beard an extra lather in the shower using warm water and your favorite shampoo. Go ahead and do two complete rinse and lather cycles to get everything extra clean. You may also want to use a gentle exfoliating scrub if you have one handy. To finish up, you will want to cover your beard in a generous helping of conditioner as well. Rinse well and then you’re ready for step two.

Step Two: Apply A Base Layer Of Beard Oil

After your shower session, you will want to apply a generous layer of beard oil, especially if it is one of our signature Better Man Beard beard oils. The shower will leave your beard and facial skin somewhat dry and this will help restore valuable moisture. Now that we’ve removed excess skin cells and harmful bacteria and established a moisturizing base layer, it’s time to move on to the next step in the Spring Cleaning process: the astringent phase.

Step Three: The Astringent Phase

Here is where you will do a little DIY for your face and skin. If you have your own gentle astringent, then go ahead and apply it now. If not, then you can make your own with common household ingredients. You will want to apply an astringent to your face as part of the Spring Cleaning process because they can help smooth out your facial skin, relieve irritation, and shrink pores, among other helpful things.

Here’s our recipe:

  • 1 cup of strongly brewed all natural green tea, cooled
  • 1 cup of strongly brewed all natural mint tea, cooled
  • 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar (or white vinegar in a pinch)
  • (optional) 10 drops of orange essential oil

Mix the tea and vinegar and essential oil into a jug or semi-large bowl until incorporated. Use a soft microfiber towel or cotton swabs to apply the astringent to your face generously. The remaining astringent can be stored in the refrigerator for up to one week if you want to use it again in the timeframe.

Step Four: Re-Moisturize Your Beard

Here you go! We made it. The final step is very simple, yet refreshing. We add valuable moisture back into our beard and skin. To do this, we recommend applying a generous amount of your favorite beard balm, preferably one of the many excellent varieties of Better Man Beard’s balms, available here. And now you’re done! Your beard and face should be ready to face any challenge this year.
